Setting up WasNow
In short
- Install, then switch the app embed on in your theme. That is the whole setup.
- Discounts every shopper gets are shown as a struck-through original price plus a sale price and a savings badge.
- Offers whose exact price depends on the cart become badges. Discounts limited to particular customers or segments are hidden, and the product price is left alone.
- WasNow never edits products, prices, theme files or discounts. It writes only app-owned display rules and settings used by the theme extension.
The two steps
- Install the app from the Shopify App Store.
- Open Home and press "Open theme editor". WasNow is already selected; press Save in the theme editor. The app notices by itself and setup is done.
What is shown, and how
The rule behind every line below is one sentence: the price a shopper sees is never lower than what checkout charges for that item. When the app cannot be sure, it shows the original price.
| Your discount | What shoppers see |
|---|---|
| Automatic percentage off products, no conditions | Sale price with the original struck through, plus a savings badge |
| Automatic fixed amount off each item | Sale price, in your store currency; a badge in other currencies |
| Minimum quantity or minimum spend | Badge only — the price depends on the cart |
| Buy X get Y, volume pricing, order discounts | Badge only |
| Eligible simple, single discount codes (Pro) | Badge telling shoppers the code |
| Customer- or segment-only discounts | Nothing — not every shopper would get that price |
| Discounts created by another app | Hidden by default because their rules cannot be read; you can choose to show a plain badge |
What WasNow does not do
None of these is a bug, and each of them exists so a shopper is never quoted a price checkout will not honour.
Discounts that cannot combine
When two discounts do not combine, Shopify applies the best one for the whole cart, not for each line. So a discount is only shown as a price when every other live discount combines with it; otherwise it becomes a badge. Turning on "Combines with product discounts" fixes it.
Themes without a price block: Pipeline
Pipeline's product pages render the price only inside the Add to cart button, which the app deliberately never touches. On Pipeline, product pages are badge-only; collection cards work normally.
Page builders
PageFly, GemPages and Replo render their own markup. WasNow recognises their common price elements, but an unusual layout may need a custom selector (Advanced, from Starter).
B2B, subscriptions and quantity rules
A logged-in B2B company contact sees unmodified prices. When a subscription plan is selected on a product page, no price is rewritten. Quantity price breaks and volume tables are never rewritten.
EU and EEA shoppers
By default no strikethrough and no savings figure is shown to shoppers in the EU and the EEA, because the Price Indication Directive requires an announced prior price to be the lowest of the previous 30 days — which an app cannot know. The sale price itself is still shown.
Collections take up to a minute
The app keeps its own index of which products are in which collection. After a product leaves a collection, that index can lag by about a minute on collection and search pages. Product pages always read the collection list from your theme, so they are never wrong.
Cart, checkout and email
Cart lines, the checkout, emails, POS and the Shop app are Shopify's own surfaces and are left untouched. Recommendation cards inside a cart drawer are covered.
If a price is not changing
- Check the embed is on: Home says so, and "Check now" re-reads your live theme.
- Open the Discounts page: each discount says how it is shown and why, with the one thing to change.
- Use "Test a product" on the Discounts page: it answers, per variant, exactly what a shopper would see.
- On a paid plan, Advanced › "Test on my store" opens your storefront with every matched price outlined.
